Beninese Pan-African activist Kemi Seba was arrested in South Africa on 16 April 2026, following an arrest warrant issued by the Benin authorities. Very present on social networks, where he broadcasts sovereignist and anti-Western discourses at a large audience, he built a strong influence while remaining a controversial figure.

Already confronted with several international disputes, including expulsions and tensions with different authorities, he is this time prosecuted for alleged charges of breach of state security and incitement to rebellion.

His arrest, carried out in the framework of judicial cooperation between South Africa and Benin, opens an extradition procedure. A hearing is expected in the coming days to decide on the continuation of his detention and to consider the request for transfer to Benin. Meanwhile, there are many reactions to the case, both on social networks and in political circles.
