Port-au-Prince, September 9, 2025.- The President of the Presidential Council of Transition (CPT), Laurent Saint-Cyr, presented, on Monday, September 8, the amps to the 21 members of the Haitian National Committee of Restitution and Reparation (CNHRR). The ceremony, held at Villa d'Accommodation, marks the official entry into office of this body responsible for bringing the Haitian claim of colonial reparations on the national and international scene.
Surrounded by the Presidential Councillors, members of the government, representatives of civil society, academia and others, Laurent Saint-Cyr highlighted the historic significance of this initiative.
« By this decision, the Haitian State entrusts you with an unprecedented responsibility: reminding the world that restorative justice is not a luxury, but a necessity. »said the Chair of the CPT.
The 21-member CNHRR has several strategic missions:
– Design and deploy Haitian diplomacy in the area of reparations;
– producing irrefutable scientific and legal documentation on the impact of colonial debt;
– mobilising civil society and the international community around this legitimate cause;
– building regional and multilateral alliances, including with CARICOM.
Laurent Saint-Cyr reaffirmed the CPT's commitment to support the Committee in carrying out its mission. He also urged his members to act with scientific rigour, excellence and love of the homeland.
With this installation, Haiti is taking a decisive step in its quest for historical justice and reparation for the legacy of colonial debt.
