Port-au-Prince, July 7, 2025.- The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, conducted the official opening of the launch workshop of the Working Group on the Minimum Emergency Device in Reproductive Health (DMU-SR). This took place at the Hotel El Rancho in Pétion-Ville on Wednesday 2 July.
Members of the Government and other officials took part, including the Minister Delegate for Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Herwil Gaspard, the Secretary of State for Integration of Persons with Disabilities, Mr Génard Joseph, the Secretary of State for Population and Human Development, Mr Arry Marsan, and the Chief of Staff of the Minister for Women and Women's Rights, Ms Marie Denise Claude.
In addition, at this official launch, several technical and financial partners gathered, including UNFPA, UNAIDS, CROIX ROUGE and the WHO/OPS, the humanitarian coordinator and resident coordinator of the United Nations system in Haiti, Ms. Ulrika Richardson, the Ambassador of Taiwan, as well as numerous central and departmental directors, including the Director of Family Health, Dr. Cassandre Milord, the Director of the National Emergency Management Unit, Mr. Marcus Cadet, and several other officials of the Ministry of Public Health and Population.
Speaking, the holder of the MSPP, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, highlighted issues related to sexual and reproductive health, especially sexual violence and other forms of violence in the context of a humanitarian crisis. These major challenges, he said, must be placed at the centre of priorities, both strategic and practical. In order to achieve this, he also stated that he would count on the support of all sectors to support the national authorities in adopting strong measures to ensure the protection of all, especially women, girls, adolescents and young people.
For her part, the Director of the DSF, Dr. Cassandre Milord, applauded the establishment of the DMU-SR. It welcomed the establishment of this structured, inter-agency and multisectoral framework, designed to ensure a coordinated and effective response to priority sexual and reproductive health needs in emergencies.
