Port-au-Prince, July 7, 2025.- As part of a series of activities focusing on awareness-raising and prevention, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr.Sinal Bertrand, led last week a training session for young women leaders working in 12 camps for internally displaced persons in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
This activity aims to build the capacity of young women leaders in disease control. These leaders play a key role in improving hygiene conditions and community mobilization.
At the end of these training sessions, they will be able to better intervene in the field during the awareness-raising and prevention campaign, to participate actively in interventions adapted to the hygienic reality of the communities. Following the identification of certain hygienic problems, they will be asked to submit them to the MSPP for necessary follow-up.
Some of the themes addressed:
– Washing hands – One of the best ways to combat cholera and other infectious diseases resulting from water consumption;
– Access to water treatment – Guarantee of access to drinking water;
– Women's Leadership and Community Engagement – Better involvement of women in health decision-making;
– Infectious and chronic diseases – Avoid all forms of contamination and healthy management in difficult times.
It is important to recall that women play a key role in family and community health. By engaging in training aimed at strengthening their autonomy and capacity to act professionally on the ground, the MSPP wants to ensure that the prevention message reaches more people through the 12 camps of internally displaced persons in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
