Petion-ville, September 12, 2025.- The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) inaugurated the Sector Table for Youth on Friday 12 September during a day of dialogue at the Karibe Convention Center. Supported by the United Nations system and several partners, this initiative aims to provide Haiti with an inclusive and sustainable consultation mechanism, placing youth at the heart of national transformation.
The ceremony brought together the Director General of MJSAC, the United Nations Resident Coordinator ad interim in Haiti, diplomats, representatives of sectoral ministries and many youth associations. Each ministry was involved in a thematic commission linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reflecting a cross-cutting approach.
In her speech, Minister of Youth, Niola Lynn Sarah Devalis Octavius emphasized the historic significance of this initiative: « We are laying the groundwork for a new social pact, where young people become the centrepiece of national transformation. » She recalled the major challenges: endemic unemployment, lack of opportunities and exclusion of decision-making bodies.
*Three priority projects*
The Sectoral Table is structured around structuring projects:
1. Institutionalize youth associations, with the forthcoming establishment of a National Youth Council;
2. Mobilizing youth for community service to build a « peaceful citizen army »;
3. Develop a National Youth Policy, focusing on education, employment, digital inclusion, citizen participation and climate adaptation.
The Minister stressed that the preliminary draft Constitution under discussion provided for the compulsory participation of young people and women in political parties, as well as the principle of parity in representation.
