Port-au-Prince, 4 December 2025.- On an official visit to Haiti, the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, called on Wednesday, December 3, for the urgent organization of secure, credible and rigorously prepared elections. He urges the authorities to publish without delay the electoral calendar, while recalling that any decision concerning the replacement of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) on 7 February 2026 is solely the responsibility of Haitian actors.

Speaking in meetings with several journalists, Albert Ramdin stressed the need to create an environment conducive to free elections. « Elections must be well prepared. The safe environment must not be an obstacle to their organization »he said, stressing that every citizen must be able to exercise his right to vote « in complete freedom ».

The Secretary-General of the OAS has placed particular emphasis on securing voting centres and on the availability of the logistical means necessary for the successful conduct of the elections. « It's a lot of work and the delay is very short. We expect to see the electoral calendar of the CEP »he said that the publication of this document will be a key element of OAS support for the electoral process.

When asked about the role of the regional organisation in the upcoming elections, especially in the light of the controversy surrounding the 2010 election, Albert Ramdin recalled that the OAS has proven technical expertise in electoral support. He confirmed that discussions had already taken place with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and that further discussions were planned to identify the needs for holding elections. « free, transparent and credible ».

Turning to the question of the political transition and the constitutional deadline of 7 February 2026, the Secretary-General was unequivocal: the decision belongs exclusively to Haitians. « The CPT's mandate will expire in early February 2026. It is up to all stakeholders to move forward. A structure will have to be set up after February », he said. He said that he had recommended a short transition, with a clear mandate and an effective government, capable of reducing insecurity and preparing for elections.

Albert Ramdin also presented the OAS road map for Haiti, structured around five priority areas: security, humanitarian assistance, political dialogue, preparations for elections and economic recovery. « Haiti is a priority, especially in terms of security »He insisted.

The visit of the Secretary General of the OAS bears witness to the sustained attention paid by the regional organization to the political developments in Haiti, at a decisive time when the country is called upon to clarify its institutional future.
