Washington, 10 September 2025.- To strengthen his campaign to capture Jimmy Cherizier, alias « Barbecue », the US administration innovates using popular entertainment codes on social networks. Fun videos, mixing humour and staging, recall the $5 million reward offered for any information leading to his arrest.
For several days, the American embassy in Haiti has been broadcasting sequences where a diplomat dances by exhibiting a bundle of tickets, symbolizing the promised bonus for the capture of the gang leader. This unusual method reflects a desire to address directly a young audience familiar with this digital language to counter the media influence of armed groups.
This Wednesday, September 10, a new publication of the US Embassy in Haiti showed Jimmy Cherizier in a live on TikTok, surrounded by dozens of men and women, accompanied by a severe message: « Don't be deceived by gang lies. Terrorists are destroying houses, ruining neighbourhoods and terrorizing the population. »
The embassy recalls that these criminal organizations do not work for the good of Haiti but are at the origin of the security crisis that ravages the country. « We must capture them and put an end to violence. Haiti's security is important for the United States »stressed diplomatic representation.
By focusing on videos in staggered tone, Washington hopes to amplify its message, destabilize the image that gangs seek to project and mobilize the population in the fight against insecurity.
