Minneapolis, January 7, 2026.- On Wednesday, a woman was shot dead by an officer of the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) in Minneapolis, while trying to escape a search during an anti-immigration operation, causing intense emotion and demonstrations at the scene.
A video of the incident circulates widely on social networks. According to Tricia McLaughlin, spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ECI agents were involved in a targeted operation when they were blocked by several people. McLaughlin claims that a woman used her vehicle as a weapon against the agents, which she described as « domestic terrorism ».
Faced with this danger, the CIA officer opened fire, indicating that he believed his life and that of his colleagues at risk. According to the DHS statement, the agent acted in self-defence. The target woman was reached and died, while injured agents should recover fully.
The spokesman also denounced what she considers to be a « demonization » security forces by some politicians who are in favour of the cities, citing an increase in attacks and threats against the police. « These men and women, who merely enforce the law, are experiencing a significant increase in attacks and death threats. », she said, promising to provide more information to the public as soon as possible.
The shooting took place in an already tense climate around anti-immigration operations in several large American cities. At the scene of the incident, demonstrators gather to express their anger at the local and federal agents involved.
