Bogota, August 11, 2025.- Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe, aspiring to the presidency for the elections of 2026, died this Monday, August 11, 2025 at the age of 39, as a result of serious injuries sustained during an armed attack in Bogotá last June.
The announcement of his death was made by his wife, Claudia Tarazona, who shared a poignant tribute on Instagram: « You will remain forever the love of my life. Thanks for everything. Rest in peace, I will look after our children. »
Miguel Uribe was seriously wounded on 7 June while he was delivering a political speech in the capital. He was hit by two projectiles in the head and one in the leg, and was hospitalized in an emergency and placed in intensive care. Despite several operations, his condition has deteriorated in recent days, leading to a fatal outcome following a new brain hemorrhage.
This tragedy has upset the country. Many political figures expressed their outrage. Vice-President Francia Márquez denounced political violence on X, saying: « Democracy is built with dialogue, not with weapons. »
Three individuals, including a 15-year-old who was suspected of shooting Uribe, were arrested. Charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons, they still contest their involvement in the attack.
