Nantes, July 3, 2025.- The Administrative Court of Appeal of Nantes annulled the decision to revoke the Schengen short-stay visa issued in 2022 to the former Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean Henry Céant. This measure was taken by the former French Ambassador to Haiti, Fabrice Mauriès, on the ground of alleged « threats to public order ».
In its judgment, the Court held that the charges brought against Mr Céant were without concrete evidence and were tainted by a lack of adversarial proceedings, thereby infringing the fundamental rights of the person concerned. It therefore rejected the reasons given by the Ambassador, which were considered unfounded.
« It is a victory for law, truth and justice »in a statement, welcoming a decision which he interpreted as an official recognition of the integrity of the former Head of Government.
The Court decision, relayed in particular by Euronews, stresses that « The Nantes decision is part of the path of Jean Henry Céant's commitment to inclusion, rejection of violence and the search for dialogue ».
The Secretariat of the former Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with this judicial outcome, considering that it is putting an end to an arbitrary decision taken in a tense political context without a legal basis.
