UNA-7: the world is about to meet in Nairobi to advance durable solutions to global challenges

Nairobi, 3 November 2025.- The Seventh United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) will be held from 8 to 12 December 2025 at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. Placed under the theme « Advancing durable solutions for a resilient planet »This meeting will bring together the 193 Member States to define global guidelines and policy responses to the most urgent environmental challenges.

The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) is the world's highest decision-making body on the environment. With a universal membership of 193 Member States, it establishes the global environment agenda, directs international policies and assesses emerging environmental threats. The Assembly also promotes political dialogue, sharing of experience and intergovernmental cooperation in order to develop common strategies and mobilize the resources necessary for the protection of the planet.

A strategic appointment for the planet

Under the theme « Advancing durable solutions for a resilient planet »UNEA-7 will aim to promote concrete and sustainable solutions to global environmental crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and natural resource management. Ministerial delegations, scientists and representatives of civil society will discuss ways to accelerate the global environmental transition, while ensuring climate justice and the resilience of human societies.

An essential preparatory phase: OECPR-7

The seventh meeting of the Open-ended Permanent Representatives Committee (OECPR-7). This committee, which brings together representatives of the Member States, prepares draft resolutions and decisions to be submitted to the Assembly.
It is also this week that the Presidency of the Assembly will hold informal consultations to reach consensus on a ministerial declaration, a key document that will guide the political discussions in UNEA-7.

LUNA-7 comes at a time when environmental crises are intensifying and calling for enhanced international cooperation. Nairobi decisions should guide the global road map towards more ambitious, inclusive and forward-looking environmental governance.
