Pétion-Ville, September 21, 2025.- In a particularly tense political context, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has set up a new office. On Saturday, September 20, Jacques Desrosiers, a representative of the press sector, was elected president of the institution, replacing Patrick Saint-Hilaire, who had held this position for nearly 11 months.
This new team takes over from the CEP at a turning point, as the country is undergoing profound socio-political crises. Its mission is to advance the electoral process, including by holding a constitutional referendum and general elections at all levels of the State.
The new office consists of:
– Jacques Desrosiers : President
– Me Jaccéus Joseph : Vice-President
– Nemrod Sanon : Treasurer
– Peterson Pierre-Louis : Secretary
The office will have to operate in an extremely sensitive context: armed groups control part of the capital and several areas in the province, while thousands of people are displaced as a result of the violence. If there is no rapid response to this situation, the electoral process may be completely paralyzed.
Despite these challenges, Jacques Desrosiers affirmed his willingness to work rigorously and transparently to restore confidence in electoral institutions. His team inherits a major responsibility: to ensure a credible and inclusive process in a climate of widespread distrust.
The Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) remains committed to completing the constitutional referendum and general elections before the end of its mandate. It is now expected to endorse the composition of the new electoral office and provide it with the necessary resources to carry out the tasks assigned to it, with a view to providing the country with a new Constitution and democratically elected authorities.
