Port-au-Prince, January 6, 2026.- From the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the South, the North and the West to the digital transformation of the sector, the Minister of Tourism, in an interview in Magik 9, Monday 5 January, takes stock judged « fruitful » in 2025. According to Minister John Herrick Dessources, these actions aim to lay the foundations for a gradual revival of Haitian tourism in 2026, despite a difficult national context.
Investments in several regions
Contrary to the ideas received, the ministry's interventions in 2025 were not limited to the Great South. « We were first in the North, before crossing the South »said the minister.
In the South, the Departmental Directorate of Tourism, closed and vandalized for several years, is being rehabilitated. The inauguration of new offices is announced by mid-January 2026. The Jacques-Marie Latortue Convention Centre also benefited from major renovations.
In the West, Haiti's hotel school in Pétion-Ville is the subject of a long-awaited extension to strengthen vocational training.
In Cap-Haitien, work has been done to improve reception at the international airport. The Cap Boulevard tourist market is also being renovated, in partnership with the private sector, while the National Historic Park (Citadel, Sans-Souci and Ramiers) has been provided with reception kiosks and enhanced lighting.
Structural reforms and security
Beyond physical work, the Ministry has embarked on a digital transformation, with the establishment of economic intelligence platforms and the creation of a tourist data centre. A Tourism Development Fund is also being structured.
At the same time, the strengthening of the Tourist Police (PoliTour) continues, with new training and the acquisition of equipment. Further sessions are planned in January 2026, especially in the North.
For 2026, the Ministry of Tourism intends to consolidate these achievements, extend the renovations to other strategic sites and continue the reforms undertaken in order to gradually reposition Haiti on the regional tourist scene.
