Fire at Hotel Oloffson: government advocates zero tolerance

Port-au-Prince, July 8, 2025.- Following the arson that ravaged the Oloffson Hotel, an architectural jewel and symbol of Haitian heritage, the Haitian government reacted firmly by stating that this act marks an unacceptable turning point in the terror imposed by the armed bandits. The State calls for national unity and decrees a zero tolerance policy against such crimes.

In a statement issued on Tuesday 8 July, the Primature expressed its outrage at the destruction of this emblematic place. « This site, which has welcomed artists, writers and visitors from all over the world, is no longer. It is part of the soul of Port-au-Prince, our collective memory and our heritage that disappears », read in the document.

The Government strongly condemns this new form of escalation, where armed groups no longer merely attack civilians and infrastructure, but now target national cultural identity. It calls on the population to mobilize in general and to step up solidarity in the face of this growing threat.

Aware of the gravity of the situation, the State reaffirms its commitment to mobilize all necessary means to track, dismantle and eradicate these criminal groups. He promises that this crime against the nation will not go unpunished. To the perpetrators of these acts, the government sends a clear message: Haiti will not yield. This test will only strengthen the determination of the people to recover.
