South-East Security: Police prepares security report for July

Municipal Commissioner Garry Victor

Jacmel, August 8, 2025.- On Thursday, 7 August, the Departmental Directorate of the South-East Police presented a disturbing assessment of its operations for the month of July. According to statements by Municipal Commissioner Gary Victor, Spokesperson for the South-East PNH, 124 people were arrested, including 110 men and 14 women, for various crimes and offences.

The most serious offences include 15 cases of rape, 10 of which involve minors, 11 cases of criminal association, 9 cases of assault, 8 simple assaults, 4 assassination attempts, 4 theft of cattle, and 2 cases of escape.

During the same period, the police also recorded three cases of suicide: one per hanging, one per drowning and one per firearm.

On the road side, 14 accidents were recorded in the department: 11 in Jacmel, resulting in 3 deaths and 9 injuries, and 3 in Cayes-Jacmel, resulting in 1 death and 2 injuries.

Since Commissioner Magalie Belneau took office on 2 July, at the head of the DDSE, the PNH has implemented several targeted strategies to track down criminals and strengthen its presence in sensitive areas. These efforts are part of a dynamic to combat rising insecurity, in a context where more and more criminals are seeking refuge in provincial cities.

The South-East HNP reaffirms its determination to protect the population, while seeking citizen collaboration to help maintain law and order and restore a departmental security environment.
