This Sunday, July 13, 2025, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) conducted a spectacular anti-drug operation on the island of Turtle, in the department of the Northwest. A boat carrying 1045 kilos of cocaine was seized. One Jamaican national was killed, another from the Bahamas was arrested, and several other individuals were affected during the exchange of fire. The operation, which is still under way, has allowed several boats involved in this vast traffic to deroute.

In a strong collaboration between several specialized units – the Departmental Directorate of the North West (DDNO), the Brigade de Lutte contre le Trafic de Stupéfiants (BLTS), the UDMO, and the Garde-Côtes – the PNH carried out a blow from the drug trafficking that is raging in Haitian waters.

According to initial information, the operation resulted in the seizure of a registered vessel NPT033555 carrying 1,045 kilos of cocaine. Three mobile phones were also confiscated. During the intervention, Jimmy Anthony, a Jamaican national suspected of direct involvement in drug transport, was fatally injured during an exchange of fire with law enforcement.

A Bahamian national, also on board, was injured and transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary care. Other suspects, who were on board accompanying boats, managed to escape. According to the PNH spokesman, Michel-Ange Louis Jeune, research continues to find them.

In an interview granted to Radio Métropole on Monday 14 July, Commissioner Louis Jeune said that the operation, although effective, is not yet fully completed, and that a full assessment will be made available to the public after the final stages have been completed.

This new operation demonstrates the strengthening of the capacity of the HNP in the fight against transnational drug trafficking, and underlines the strategic importance of the north-west coast of Haiti in the maritime routes used by drug traffickers.
