The guest of honour, Omar Ouahmane, journalist at Radio France, recalled the weight of history in Haiti's current perception, evoking notably the debt imposed by Charles X and foreign interference. He denounced the lack of attention given to the country in some editorials and called for overcoming the paternalistic representations still present in certain media treatments.

Anne Cantener, presenter of the newspaper Haiti and the Americas on RFI, highlighted efforts to integrate more Haitian voices into journalistic content. Through local correspondents and collaborations with media such as Le Nouvelliste, AlterPresse or Ayibopost, she stressed the importance of showing a plural country, beyond crises, by valuing culture, territory and daily life.

Journalists from France 24, Roméo Langlois and Catherine Noristrend, insisted on the lack of knowledge of Haitian history in France and the need for a rigorous field report. They denounced the tendency to focus attention on gangs, to the detriment of victims and social realities. Both pleaded for a more balanced, respectful and faithful coverage of Haitian complexity.

In opening the meeting, Ambassador Louino Volcy stressed the need to work towards a more just image of Haiti, a country too often reduced to its crises. He recalled his strengths: a remarkable history, rich cultural heritage, strategic geography, major tourism potential and a dynamic diaspora. The « Franco-Haitian friendship Thursdays » This is part of an approach aimed at strengthening ties with France while repositioning Haiti on the international scene.
