New York, December 3, 2025.- Celebrated this year under the theme « Promoting inclusive societies for people with disabilities to stimulate social progress »International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 highlights the urgent need for the full and effective integration of persons with disabilities into social, economic and political dynamics.
According to a note issued by the United Nations, despite the progress made in some countries, persons with disabilities and their families continue to face persistent challenges worldwide. These include increased poverty, discrimination in the labour market, unequal access to social protection and violations of human dignity in care systems. These obstacles hinder the achievement of social development objectives.
The Organization stresses that poverty eradication, access to decent employment and social inclusion are three inseparable pillars for building a more equitable and sustainable future. Their implementation requires ambitious public policies, focusing on universal accessibility, active participation and autonomy of persons with disabilities.
The theme chosen for the 2025 edition is a follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development, which calls for a more just, inclusive and sustainable world where no population group is left behind.
