Port-au-Prince, August 26, 2025.- A memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday between the Office d'Insurance Accidents du Travail, Maladie et Maternité (OFATMA) and the Directorate General of Civil Protection (DGPC) to provide a health insurance card to Brigadier of Civil Protection throughout the country. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the social coverage of these agents, with over 150 cards already ready for distribution.
A blanket for all brigadier
Presented on the occasion of the 23rd « National Tuesdays », held at the Primature, the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding brought together the Director General of the OFATMA, Mr. Vikerson Garnier, and that of Civil Protection, Mr. Emmanuel Pierre. This partnership aims to provide comprehensive medical coverage to CPB Brigadiers, who are often exposed to major risks in the performance of their duties.
According to Mr Emmanuel Pierre, it is already more than 150 insurance cards that have been produced and will soon be handed over to the beneficiaries and a dozen have been handed over to brigadiers from the West Department on Tuesday. This is a first phase of a project to extend to the whole national territory.
A unique and fair insurance card
The OFATMA DG, Vikerson Garnier, stressed that the institution offers a single insurance for all its insured persons, without distinction of social status. « All OFATMA insured persons, regardless of their social status, have the same insurance card », he said.
This Memorandum of Understanding shall be valid for one year, renewable each year, in accordance with the terms established between the two institutions.
More than health insurance
The insurance offered by OFATMA is not limited to medical care. It also includes assistance in the event of death. « The insured's relatives will be accompanied by the institution. »Garnier said, highlighting the human aspect of this coverage.
