Port-au-Prince, August 26, 2025.- A memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday between the Office d'Insurance Accidents du Travail, Maladie et Maternité (OFATMA) and the Directorate General of Civil Protection (DGPC) to provide a health insurance card to Brigadier of Civil Protection throughout the country. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the social coverage of these agents, with over 150 cards already ready for distribution.
A blanket for all brigadier
Présentée à l’occasion de la 23e édition des « Mardis de la Nation « , tenue à la Primature, la signature de ce protocole d’accord a réuni le Directeur Général de l’OFATMA, M. Vikerson Garnier, et celui de la Protection Civile, M. Emmanuel Pierre. Ce partenariat vise à offrir une couverture médicale complète aux brigadiers de la DGPC, souvent exposés à des risques majeurs dans l’exercice de leurs fonctions.
According to Mr Emmanuel Pierre, it is already more than 150 insurance cards that have been produced and will soon be handed over to the beneficiaries and a dozen have been handed over to brigadiers from the West Department on Tuesday. This is a first phase of a project to extend to the whole national territory.
A unique and fair insurance card
Le DG de l’OFATMA, Vikerson Garnier, a souligné que l’institution offre une assurance unique pour tous ses assurés, sans distinction de statut social. « Tous les assurés de l’OFATMA, quelle que soit leur couche sociale, disposent de la même carte d’assurance « , a-t-il affirmé.
This Memorandum of Understanding shall be valid for one year, renewable each year, in accordance with the terms established between the two institutions.
More than health insurance
L’assurance offerte par l’OFATMA ne se limite pas aux soins médicaux. Elle inclut également une assistance en cas de décès. « Les proches des assurés bénéficieront d’un accompagnement de l’Institution « , a précisé M. Garnier, mettant en avant l’aspect humain de cette couverture.
