Port-au-Prince, September 17, 2025.- As the school year 2025-2026 approaches, about 700 intern teachers demand their official appointment within the Haitian educational system. At a press conference on Tuesday, 16 September, they denounced the lack of initiatives by the Minister of National Education, Antoine Augustine, whom they accused of deliberately blocking the process despite the urgency of the situation.
These teachers recall that their files have been filed since February 2023 under the leadership of former Minister Nesmy Manigat, but that no significant progress has been made since then. They requested a dialogue with the authorities concerned to obtain explanations of the delays and the availability of letters of appointment.
Teachers also criticize the statements of Minister Augustine, who blamed the poor results on the teacher's incompetence baccalaureate. They consider this to be inconsistent, stressing that the trainees have undergone comprehensive training and are able to teach.
They believe that if the minister really wanted to improve the system, he would have integrated these young professionals, mostly from public universities, instead of politicizing the crisis. They require a quick response to avoid a blockage of the expected start of October 2025.
