Port-au-Prince, March 31, 2026.- The Embassy of France in Haiti, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and the Research Institute for Development (IRD) launched, this March 31, 2026, the call for applications for the 6th edition of the doctoral mobility program Antenor Firmin. For Haitian doctoral students, this scheme supports research training through funded international stays, with a deadline of 30 June 2026.
The Antenor Firmin program aims to strengthen scientific cooperation and doctoral training by facilitating the international mobility of Haitian doctoral students. In particular, it encourages the establishment of thesis cotutelles between Haitian and foreign universities, mainly French. Beneficiaries may carry out research visits abroad for up to six months a year, for a maximum of three years.
The call is intended primarily for students enrolled in the first year of doctoral studies in 2026-2027, but is also open to doctoral students already enrolled in the second or third year, subject to an international cotutelle agreement. Particular attention will be paid to university teachers, especially women scientists, engaged in research.
To be eligible, candidates must be Haitian nationals, reside in Haiti, hold at least a master's degree and benefit from the supervision of two thesis directors, one in Haiti and the other in a foreign university. All areas are accepted, with a strong interest in strategic themes such as climate change, health, education, renewable energy and the economy. Two additional grants are also dedicated this year to artificial intelligence research.
The selection process will be based on the academic quality of the dossier, the scientific relevance of the project, the expected impact for Haiti and the Caribbean region, as well as the soundness of the budget presented. Applicants with co-financing or institutional support will benefit from an advantage. In addition, the IRD provides additional funding for some winners, covering research periods in Haiti.
Full applications must be submitted electronically by 30 June 2026, via the Service « France Transfer ». The organizers insist on the rigour required in the preparation of the files, which must be written in French and complete by the deadline, under penalty of rejection.
