Médecins Sans Frontières announces the resumption of its activities in October

Port-au-Prince, 16 July 2025.- Following a meeting with the state authorities, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced the resumption of its activities in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince from October 2025. This recovery will be conditioned by the establishment of a humanitarian corridor in collaboration with the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

According to a statement issued this Wednesday, 16 July, the President of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), His Excellency Fritz Alphonse Jean, as well as the Councillor-President Leslie Voltaire, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Dr Patrick Pélissier, and the Director General a.i. of the PNH, Mr Rameau Normil, met at the Villa d'Accommodation a MSF delegation, led by Fabio Biolchini, Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The discussions focused on the conditions for the resumption of MSF's activities, which had been suspended since November 2024 because of the increased violence and threats against its staff and infrastructure. The organization had stated that his return depended on security guarantees for his teams and patients, as well as respect for his medical mandate.

The HNP and MSF are committed to working together to create a humanitarian corridor to provide vulnerable populations with access to care. The Turgeau Hospital will be MSF's main intervention centre in the capital.

It should be recalled that the NGO has been the victim of multiple attacks, including armed attacks, threats of death and rape, as well as abductions of its personnel by armed groups and sometimes arrested by law enforcement forces. Ambulances were attacked, causing deaths and injuries among patients and staff.

Despite this difficult context, MSF confirmed its willingness to resume its services from October 2025 onwards.
