Port-au-Prince, September 8, 2025.- The Union of Parents of Progressive Students of Haiti (UPEPH) criticises the inaction of the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) in the face of private and congregational schools that do not respect the official date of the school year, scheduled Wednesday to October 1, 2025.
In an open letter to Minister Augustin Antoine, UPEPH states that it received several complaints from parents, including members of the ministerial cabinet, accusing some schools of imposing an early resumption of courses as early as September and of claiming unjustified additional costs.
The organisation also deplores the fact that some public and congregational schools freely set high fees, up to 40,000 gourdes a year, despite the MENFP circular limiting the contribution of parents to 1,500 gourdes in public schools.
UPEPH calls on MENFP to enforce the school schedule and punish the wrong institutions in order to ensure fairness and protection of parents' rights in the education system.
