In his first official interview, Pope Leo XIV reaffirms his commitment to the traditional doctrine of the Catholic Church regarding the place of women and people of the LGBTQ+ federation. It excludes any doctrinal change in the short term, including the ordination of deacons or recognition of homosexual marriage.
However, in a desire for continuity with Pope Francis, Leo XIV wishes to expand the position of women in the Church by appointing them to leadership positions. He also advocates an unconditional welcome for LGBTQ+ people, while specifying that an individual's particular identity should not condition his invitation to participate in ecclesial life.
In the book « Leo XIV, world citizen, missionary of the 21st century »he claims that the teaching of the Church « will remain as » and calls to avoid polarization. He also stressed the importance of the traditional family, which he considered a pillar to be protected and valued.
This positioning, between pastoral openness and doctrinal fidelity, seeks to reassure Catholics attached to conservative values, while maintaining a discourse of inclusion.
