Port-au-Prince, March 13, 2026.- Haitian political parties participated, this Friday, March 13, in a meeting organized by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (UNIHB) to discuss the implementation of the National Pact for Stability and the Organisation of Elections. The discussions included the relaunch of the electoral process and the constitutional reforms envisaged in the political transition. This document, however, continues to attract strong criticism in public opinion.
During the meeting, participants addressed several priority areas for revitalizing institutional dynamics. The discussions concerned prospects for constitutional reforms, mechanisms to speed up the organisation of elections, and the possible creation of a structure to monitor the implementation of the commitments contained in the Pact. Speakers also referred to the continuing challenges to the electoral process, including security challenges and a fragmented political environment.
The meeting brought together representatives of several political groups, including Fanmi Lavalas, Commitment for Development (EDE), People's Organization in Struggle, the Rally of Progressive National Democrats and Renmen Haiti. However, the absence of the Haitian Party Tèt Kale and the Konba party was noticed. According to information gathered at the end of the meeting, several parties present expressed reservations about changing the current composition of the Provisional Electoral Council, considering that such a change could further complicate the rapid organization of elections.
While several parties took part in the discussions, others did not agree with the approach. For Lemoine Bonneau, the conditions for presenting the pact weakened the initiative. « The shape weakened the bottom »he said he regretted the lack of a prior formal process, including the clear identification of stakeholders and the transmission of the document for analysis.
