The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), through the Nursing Directorate, celebrated, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the International Day of Nurses at Hotel Montana in Petion City, on the theme: « Our nurses. Our future. The power to act of nurses saves lives ». The event was attended by the Minister of Public Health, Dr Bertrand Sinal, the Minister for Women and Women's Rights, Pedrica Saint Jean, as well as representatives of international organizations, including the PAHO/WHO, UNICEF and the Panos Institute.
In their interventions, the health authorities highlighted the central role of nurses in the Haitian health system. The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, highlighted their essential contribution to patient management, disease prevention and the functioning of health services. The Director General of the MSPP, Dr. Gabriel Timothy, recalled their continued presence with the sick, day and night, as well as their professional commitment in a context of severe constraints.
Minister Pedrica Saint Jean stressed the recognition of the role of nurses and the need to strengthen the protection of their rights in relation to access to care for the population. This commemoration highlighted the importance of nurses in the Haitian health system, while recalling the challenges related to the quality of care and the functioning of health structures.
