Port-au-Prince, October 23, 2025.- Invited to the show Panel Magik this Thursday, October 23, Jocelyne Colas, head of the Episcopal Commission Justice and Peace (CE-JILAP), fired the alarm bell on the resurgence of abductions in Haiti. It denounces the State's inaction against the armed groups which, according to it, « act as they please » in a political context marked by electoral uncertainty and the rise of organized crime.
The security situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate. According to Jocelyne Colas of the EC-JILAP, cases of abductions have increased significantly in recent weeks. She was invited by Panel Magik and stressed that armed gangs operate without resistance, taking advantage of a power vacuum and the absence of a national security strategy. « Armed groups act as they please without encountering resistance. We do not feel that the authorities have control over their actions. »She said she was deeply concerned about what she described as a total loss of State control over the territory.
Ms. Colas said that the resurgence of cases of kidnapping seemed to be linked to political issues, particularly around the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) and the preparation of elections. It also denounces the occult financial interests of certain actors who « take advantage of the chaos to make dirty money ».
Faced with this reality, the activist calls for national awareness and institutional mobilization to restore order and confidence among the population.
