Pétion-Ville, February 13, 2026.- Dozens of young people from different departments of the country met this Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Karibe Convention Center Hotel around the initiative « Youth 2250 ». The event was attended by the representative of the European Union in Haiti, Hélène Roos, the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), Mr Hans Ludwig Joseph, the Minister for Electoral Affairs, André Joseph Gracien Jean, and the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Gabriel Oscar. Objective: to promote the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 2250 on youth, peace and security.
Meeting at the initiative of several youth organizations in the country, « Youth 2250 » is a forum for dialogue and advocacy for the active participation of young people in decision-making mechanisms. The initiators recall that Resolution 2250, adopted by the UN Security Council on 9 December 2015, recognizes the central role of young people in consolidating peace and security.
According to Stanley Augustin, it is not a question of asking the state for a favor, but of demanding respect for an international commitment already made. The initiative aims to bring together youth networks and platforms across the country and the diaspora to structure a permanent dialogue between youth, public authorities and international partners.
Speaking, EU Ambassador in Haiti, Hélène Roos, welcomed a mobilization « urgent and necessary ». It recalled that resolution 2250 is based on five pillars: participation, protection, prevention, partnerships and reintegration. The European Union, she said, will continue to support initiatives that promote the engagement of young people and women in governance and peacebuilding.
UNDP representative Gabriel Oscar congratulated the organizers on this approach aligned with international priorities. He encouraged young Haitians to join forces to build their future, in a context of insecurity, institutional fragility and social vulnerability.
Minister André Joseph Gracien, for his part, invited young people to become heavily involved in the upcoming elections. For promoters of « Youth 2250 »This dynamic could lay the foundation for an inclusive national dialogue and help to reshape the country's governance with the real and structured participation of young people.
