The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC), via its Energy Cell, officially launched, on Tuesday 3 March 2026 the solar photovoltaic plant project in Mont Fleury, in the municipality of Jacmel. The start-up meeting was held at the town hall, in the presence of representatives of the World Bank, Electricity of Haiti (EDH), ESD Engineering & Service S.R.L. and local authorities.
At a total cost of US$17,498,843.60, the project is financed by the World Bank, according to Jacmel info. Work is planned for 13 months, from February 2026 to March 2027. According to Billy Jean Philippe, project manager at the MTPTC, the objective is to increase electricity production capacity and increase access to renewable and sustainable energy in the region.
Discussions focused on the timing of implementation, budget, disbursement modalities and pre-start conditions, including bank guarantees, insurance and the issuance of the order of service. According to EDH, the city of Jacmel needs about 10 megawatts (MW) to ensure adequate electricity supply.
