Port-au-Prince, January 30, 2026.- In a report published on 29 January 2026 and based on ten years of medical data, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) warns about a dramatic rise in sexual violence in Port-au-Prince. The number of cases handled by the humanitarian organization has tripled since 2021, a period marked by the increasing influence of armed groups in the Haitian capital.

Nearly 17,000 survivors, mostly women and girls (98 per cent), received medical and psychological care at the Pran Men Violence affects all age groups, with increased vulnerability among IDPs. One in five victims suffered repeated assaults, often by gang members during gang rape.

Access to care remains severely limited by insecurity, stigma and lack of essential services. Since 2022, only one out of every three survivors has been able to consult within 72 hours of the attack, compromising the prevention of HIV and unwanted pregnancies.

In response to the deterioration of health infrastructure and the reduction of funding in family planning, MSF calls for urgent mobilization, sustainable funding and coordinated action by Haitian authorities, humanitarian actors and international partners.
