Port-au-Prince, September 17, 2025.- The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC), in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and UNESCO, officially launched the national interuniversity sports competitions on Wednesday, 17 September. The initiative, under the theme « Sport for development and peace », aims to promote social cohesion, citizen engagement and gender equality while accompanying young talent towards the 2028 Olympic Games.
These competitions bring together public and private universities from the three major regions of the country (North, South and West). They aim to make sport a vehicle for peace and citizenship, while raising awareness among young people about gender equality and values of solidarity.
The kick-off will take place on Sunday, September 21, on the occasion of International Day of Peace, with a grand ceremony at Boyer Square, Petion-Ville, followed by matches at Sainte-Thérèse Park. The competition will extend until November 18, 2025, the anniversary of the Battle of Vertières.
The programme is supported financially by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), with the support of UNESCO and the participation of national organisations such as the Haitian Olympic Committee (HOC) and sports federations.
Opening games will oppose university selection « All Stars » a Haitian National Police (HNP) team. Cultural activities will complement sporting events, in a spirit of gathering and valuing young people.
In addition to developing citizenship, this initiative wants to identify and frame future sports talent capable of representing Haiti internationally. It is part of a sustainable perspective of peace education and social integration, in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
