Bogota, 20 August 2025.- A delegation of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD « General José María Córdova » (ESMIC) in Bogota, Colombia. During this visit, Haitian officers discovered the history, traditions and training methods of the Colombian army.

The ESMIC proposed a partnership to strengthen academic cooperation and exchanges between the two military forces, with the aim of supporting the professional development and training of future FAD-H cadres.

Colombia has always been in favour of strengthening the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAD) and the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in their fight against armed gangs. During his second visit to Haiti, Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed his support for growing insecurity.

He also announced the upcoming opening of a Colombian embassy in Haiti and pledged to support the country in its efforts to strengthen security.

Haiti and Colombia are thus intensifying their bilateral cooperation through projects in the fields of security, trade, education, agriculture and the fight against drug trafficking. The Petro administration offers in particular the training of Haitian officers, while Haitian delegations explore the capabilities of the Colombian defence industry.

In this context, the collaboration between the HNP and the HDFs continues to counter the grip of gangs, despite limited resources. This alliance, supported by the government and part of the population, remains crucial in the face of persistent insecurity.
