Nancy Metayer Bowen, vice mayor of Coral Springs, Florida, was found dead on April 1, 2026 at her home, in a case that police consider to be a case of domestic violence. The officers, alerted by a concerned relative, checked around 10 a.m. and discovered his body. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, identified as the main suspect, fled before being arrested at Plantation. The authorities state that there are no other suspects and that the investigation is still ongoing.
38 years old, of Haitian origin, she was an environmental scientist and a rising political figure. Elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024, she became the first black and Haitian-American woman to sit on the municipal commission of Coral Springs before being appointed vice mayor.
Very committed, she was working on issues related to the environment, social justice, housing and community engagement. She also held positions within the Florida Democratic Party, including in the mobilization of Haitian-American voters, and was considering a candidate for Congress in the coming days.
