Port-au-Prince, May 27, 2026.- The Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the National Identification Office (ONI) held this Wednesday an important working session on the participation of the Haitian diaspora in the next general elections. This initiative is part of Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's roadmap for the organization of inclusive and credible elections across the country and within Haitian communities living abroad.
This meeting marks a significant step forward in the implementation of the electoral decree officially recognizing the competence of the Provisional Electoral Council to organize elections within the Haitian diaspora. A claim made for several years by Haitians living abroad.
During the exchanges, the various institutions concerned worked on several mechanisms to facilitate the effective integration of the diaspora into the electoral process. Among the main points addressed are the registration of voters through consulates and embassies, the identification of citizens by the National Identification Office (ONI), as well as the choice of large cities with a high Haitian concentration that can serve as voting centres.
Participants also discussed the necessary logistical arrangements and coordination with Haitian diplomatic representations to ensure the smooth conduct of electoral operations abroad.
Through this approach, the government intends to strengthen democratic inclusion and broaden the citizen participation of Haitians living outside the national territory.
The Minister of Haitians living abroad, J.E. Kathia Verdier, continues to play a central liaison role between the CEP and the Haitian diaspora communities in order to ensure structured, credible and transparent participation.
This year, diaspora mobilization revolves around the theme: « Haiti: Security, elections, diaspora participates to support stability ».
