Port-au-Prince, October 9, 2025.- During the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, the Protector of the Citizen, Jean Wilner Morin, accompanied by the Director General of the Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC), Jude Jean-Pierre, drew an alarming picture of the human rights situation in Haiti. Then speaking on Magik 9, Jude Jean-Pierre said that this participation was aimed at bringing the voice of the Haitian people to the international community and strengthening cooperation to deal with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

In his address in Geneva, Jean Wilner Morin described a tragic reality: "more than one million Haitians live in promiscuity, fleeing areas controlled by gangs. Schools, hospitals, places of worship and public buildings were looted and burned, leaving thousands of children deprived of education and families delivered to themselves. "

" This sad spectacle further plunges the country into misery and alienation," said the Protector of the Citizen.

According to the OPC, Haitian law enforcement forces are overwhelmed by the scale of the crisis, while political and economic elites bear a share of responsibility for the deterioration of the country.
Jean Wilner Morin urged the authorities to act quickly to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe. He took the opportunity to make an urgent appeal to the international community.

In his speech on Magik 9, Director-General Jude Jean-Pierre reaffirmed the Office's commitment to continue its mission of defending fundamental rights. " The OPC will not weaken in its mission to make the voice of Haitian citizens heard and to defend freedom, democracy and the rule of law," he said.
