Belém, November 14, 2025.- At the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), held in 2025 in Belém, Brazil, Africa spoke with one voice, and this voice was heard. Ethiopia formally obtained the unanimous support of the African Negotiator Group to host COP32 in Addis Ababa in 2027, a decision hailed as a recognition of the country's climate leadership.
In an official statement, Ethiopian government leader Abiy Ahmed Ali expressed his « deep gratitude » to its African partners for this brand of trust. He said he was honoured to be able to make the global collective effort against one of the greatest contemporary challenges: climate change.
This choice reflects Ethiopia's growing credibility on the international stage, both as a committed climate actor and host capable of organizing large-scale summits, he wrote on X. The country intends to take advantage of the momentum initiated at the Second African Climate Summit to make COP32 a meeting of concrete and ambitious decisions.
Ethiopia is committed to promoting collective climate action, highlighting Africa as a continent with solutions, committed to building a sustainable future for the planet.
