The Ministry of the Environment met on Thursday 25 June 2026 with the sand quarries operators affected by the temporary suspension of activities in Laboule, Pilgrim and Boutillier. The authorities explained that this measure, which is limited to one month, aims to prevent environmental risks associated with the anarchic exploitation of quarries, including landslides, soil erosion and ecosystem degradation.
At the meeting, farmers were able to express their concerns and exchange views with state officials. Minister Valéry Fils-Aimé announced a new meeting in the next eight days to present the new rules that will govern the exploitation of sand quarries.
The Government affirms its desire to reconcile environmental protection, public safety and the pursuit of economic activities in accordance with existing standards.
