With the support of Quebec, CEIMH initiates training for more ethical journalism in Haiti

Quebec City, 21 July 2025.- The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Haitian Media (CEIMH) launched, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, an online training entitled « Strengthening media capacity for democratic governance in Haiti », with the financial support of the Government of Quebec. More than 70 participants from Haiti and the diaspora participated. This free program, structured in 12 modules, aims to strengthen ethics, rigour and accountability in the exercise of journalism.

The launch ceremony, held virtually via Zoom, marks the beginning of an ambitious initiative that will extend until September 2025. With funding of C$15,000 as part of Quebec's Support Plan 2023–26, this free training targeted journalists, students, bloggers, animators and Haitian communicators.

Composed of 150 hours of content, the training addresses various topics: history of Haitian media, ethics, fact-checking, journalism in times of crisis, and digital transition. It includes lectures, practical workshops, video clips and evaluations, all hosted on a specially designed interactive platform.

For Dr Wisnique Cart, Director of CEIMH: « The Haitian media landscape is at a crossroads. We want to strengthen the credibility of public speaking through rigorous and accessible training. »

The project has already attracted considerable interest, including more than 150 registrations in less than two weeks. Mr. Alain Olivier, representative of the Quebec Ministry of International Relations, welcomed the initiative as follows: « This project helps combat misinformation and restore confidence in institutions. »

National partners also provided support. The Rector of Nelson Mandela University, Mr.Sistanis Jean Ronel, has made his premises available for face-to-face sessions. The Panos Institute Haiti, the AJH and the Media School, represented respectively by Marjorie Bertrand, Nocles Debréus and Rodly Saintine, all welcomed the relevance of the programme.
