André Michel is responsible for the CPT: « the scandal of the BNC has completed a Council already discredited »

Port-au-Prince, January 14, 2026.- Invited to the morning of Magik9, Wednesday, 14 January, the lawyer and politician André Michel drew up a severe indictment against the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), which he considers to be in failure. He believes that the corruption scandal at the National Credit Bank (NCB), involving Louis Gérald Gilles, representative of the Agreement of 21 December at the CPT, has definitely undermined the already fragile credibility of the institution with the population.

According to André Michel, the corruption case at the BNC was a major turning point in the loss of confidence in the CPT. « This scandal has led to the loss of credibility that the Council still had »he said, saying that this episode helped derail the transition process.

He acknowledged his share of responsibility for the integration of Louis Gérald Gilles into the Council, admitting that he had accepted this decision. « with gravity and honesty ».

The former spokesman for the 21 December Agreement also admitted to having fought the CPT after its establishment, believing that the institution had failed in its mission. For André Michel, failure is collective: it is primarily the responsibility of the members of the CPT, but also of the political actors and groups that participated in its creation, as well as of the international community, which he accuses of failing to respect his commitments. « This is the failure of the CPT, but also of all those who contributed to its implementation. », he concluded.
