Tragic accident: 4 dead and several injured

Pétion-Ville, September 1, 2025.– A road drama occurred in the afternoon of Sunday, August 31, 2025, around 5 p.m., in Pilgrim 9. Two MaxxPro armoured vehicles, belonging to the multinational security support mission (MSS), collided, causing the death of 29-year-old security officer Roberto Jean, who was returning home on a motorcycle after his working day, as well as that of a mission officer. Eight other officers were injured, three seriously. The accident paralyzed traffic in the area for several hours.

According to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), the accident occurred during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro armoured vehicles, the largest supplied by the United States as part of the mission. « While one vehicle was towing the other, the victim of a mechanical breakdown, one hit a wall and the other ran over », said the MSS spokesman. The incident resulted in the death of one civilian and one mission officer and several injured.

Roberto Jean died instantly. The eight injured officers were taken to Aspen Hospital (level 2) where they received first aid. The three most seriously injured were then evacuated to the Dominican Republic for specialized care.

The accident caused a major traffic jam and mobilized the residents, who assisted in the rescue. Broken by the loss of Roberto Jean, his relatives organized a demonstration to demand justice and stricter security measures. For its part, the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) welcomed the solidarity of the local population, expressed its condolences to the bereaved families and assured that it continued to provide support to the injured.

This tragic accident highlights the considerable risks to vehicles and MSS personnel in their operations, while stressing the continued vulnerability of civilians in the areas of intervention.
