Washington, August 31, 2025.- Following meetings held this week by the Organization of American States (OAS) on the Road Map to Stability and Peace in Haiti, the Haitian Foreign Minister, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, reaffirmed his support for the initiative, stressing the importance of national leadership supported by international coordination. In this context, the Executive Director of the Security Mission in Haiti (MSS), Mara Tekach, drew an alarming picture of the security situation and called for immediate assistance.
According to Mara Tekach, today criminal gangs have an influence on nearly 90% of Port-au-Prince. With fewer than 1,000 personnel, the MSS and the Haitian National Police (HNP) conducted joint patrols, dismantled barricades and secured the vicinity of the airport, but these efforts remain insufficient in the face of the magnitude of the threat.
The Joint Operational Strategy MSS-PNH provides for the extension of Advanced Operational Bases (FOBs) and the deployment of technical reconnaissance teams to evaluate and plan new facilities. However, these actions require urgent resources.

These OAS meetings, which brought together the Haitian government, the United Nations, CARICOM, several Member States and observer countries, confirmed the desire to articulate a roadmap where Haitian leadership remains central, but supported by strong international support.
