Port-au-Prince, 1 July 2025.- In order to combat online misinformation, the European Union in Haiti is launching, from 1 to 7 July 2025, a national competition to create GIFs and stickers for young people aged 18 to 30. The objective is to raise awareness of the importance of checking information before sharing it. At the key, bonuses of up to 150,000 gourdes and national visibility for finalist works.
In a context where misinformation is gaining ground on social networks, the European Union (EU) in Haiti is focusing on the creativity of young people to deliver a strong message. For the first time, it organises a national competition for the creation of GIFs and stickers, two popular and viral formats, in order to raise awareness among the general public and young people in particular about the dangers associated with the circulation of unverified information.
The contest is open to all young Haitians aged 18 to 30 residing in one of the ten departments of the country. Registrations are exclusively online via this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIPQLSd7VXYaQX9XQGIt37sZMDOksPO2btfRmotivXO-em3drA611Q/viewform 1-7 July 2025.
To validate their participation, applicants must complete the form and attach identification. Those who meet the criteria will have a week to create and submit a GIF or sticker illustrating the importance of verifying social media information.
A two-step competition: creation and mobilization
After an initial selection, five finalists will be selected by a committee, including representatives of the EU and media professionals. Their creations will be published on the social networks of the Delegation of the European Union in Haiti (EUD Haiti), where the general public will be invited to vote online.
Each finalist will receive a participation bonus of 15,000 gourdes and will have to ensure the promotion of his creation to his community, to obtain the maximum of mentions « I love ».
Awards for many talents
In addition to the participation bonus, several awards will be awarded:
The Grand Prix of the Public, awarded to the creation having obtained the most likes: 150,000 HTG.
The « European Union's favourite », chosen by the representative of the DUE : 50,000 HTG.
The Special Award of the Fact-checkers, presented by a media representative: 50,000 HTG.
This competition aims not only to enhance local creative talent, but also to engage in collective reflection on the harmful effects of misinformation. It is part of an educational, playful and participatory approach to combating disinformation in Haiti.
