Taipei, 9 July 2025.- The Haitian Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, is on an official visit to Taiwan from July 7 to 11. He met with the Taiwanese President, H.E.M. Lai Ching-te. This meeting marks an important step in the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries as they approach the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties scheduled for 2026. Health, education, food security and infrastructure are at the heart of trade.
As a prelude to the celebration of 70 years of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Taiwan, the Haitian Chancellor Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste made an official visit to Taipei from July 7 to 11, 2025. Welcomed to the Presidential Palace by Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, the Haitian Minister reaffirmed the strength of the historical ties that unite the two nations.
President Lai Ching-te praised the symbolic and political significance of this visit, which he described as « strong testimony of friendship between the two peoples ». He recalled that bilateral cooperation had already produced significant results, particularly in the areas of education, infrastructure, health and food security.
« In recent years, Haiti has faced major challenges related to food supply and medical care. Taiwan will continue its commitment through various cooperation projects to improve the living conditions of the Haitian people »said President Ching-te, while expressing gratitude for Haiti's continued support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
For his part, Chancellor Jean-Baptiste stressed that this visit went well beyond a simple diplomatic courtesy. He highlighted the historical dimension of the relationship between Haiti, the first independent country with a predominantly black population and Taiwan, which he described as a « symbol of tenacious resistance, peace and innovation ».
Both leaders agreed to continue joint efforts in strategic areas, including sustainable development, public health, vocational training and resilience to humanitarian crises. This visit is a continuation of a stable and mutually beneficial diplomatic partnership, rare in the changing geopolitical context of Asia-Pacific.
