Port-au-Prince, July 25, 2025.- A delegation composed of Councillor-President Leslie Voltaire, the Minister of Culture and Communication, Mr. Patrick Delatour, and the Ambassador of the Republic of China-Taiwan to Haiti, H.E. Mr. Cheng Hao-Hu, conducted, on Thursday, an official visit to the premises of the National Television of Haiti (TNH), Delmas 33. The aim was to assess the state of the infrastructure, the technical equipment available and the working conditions of the staff.
The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for cooperation between Haiti and Taiwan in order to modernize the technical capabilities of the TNH. A meeting with the Restructuring Commission identified the urgent needs, the prospects for rehabilitation and the priority actions to be implemented to relaunch the audiovisual public service effectively, according to a note by the Presidency.
Councillor-President Leslie Voltaire stressed that the TNH should no longer be a propaganda tool, but a credible information media and a lever for educational emancipation. For his part, the Ambassador of Taiwan renewed his country's commitment to accompany this transformation, promising to mobilize the resources needed to make the TNH a modern and efficient public television.
It should be recalled that under the chairmanship of Leslie Voltaire in the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), a restructuring commission was appointed and then installed on Monday 24 February 2025, at the head of the RTNH, following recurring complaints against former General Manager Gamall Jules Augustin, accused of having transformed the public media into « landfill « .
Consisting of five members, Sandra Duvivier, President, Gideon Junior Georges, Jean Marie Simon, Jean Yvon Virgile, Chenald Augustin and Patrick Saint-Pré, this commission is responsible for assessing the functioning of the TNH and the RNH, for providing interim management and for proposing restructuring measures to the Transitional Presidential Council at the Ministerial Councils.
It has six months to accomplish its mission, with a monthly report to be submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Communication (MCC) and a final report to be submitted to the Council of Ministers. Partnerships have been planned with international organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
