Washington, July 31, 2026.- Guest on Magik 9, this Friday, July 31, Viles Dorsainvil, head of the Haitian Community Help and Support Center in Springfield, drew a disturbing picture of the situation of Haitians whose Temporary Protection Status (TPS) expired in Ohio. He referred to difficulties related to employment, driving licences, the convening of migration authorities and increasing insecurity within the community.
According to Viles Dorsainvil, several Haitian nationals receive invitations from the Department of Internal Security (DHS) for interviews in centres in Cincinnati and Cleveland. At the end of certain proceedings, persons awaiting decisions in immigration courts were given an electronic bracelet, a measure which he considered humiliating and a source of concern within the community.
The community leader also states that the end of the GST has had a direct impact on the daily lives of many Haitians. Some have lost their work permits and driving permits, making it difficult for them to move and access income in a state where the car is often indispensable.
Faced with this situation, the Haitian Community Help and Support Center reported that it had strengthened its assistance. The organisation distributes foodstuffs, basic necessities, provides transport support, facilitates access to interpreters and accompanies persons summoned to immigration courts. She also works with specialized partners to provide mental health support.
While recalling the contribution of the Haitian community to the economic development of Springfield, Viles Dorsainvil deplored the lack of position of the Haitian authorities in the face of the difficulties encountered by their nationals in the United States. He called for diplomatic mobilization to defend their rights and ensure better support.
