Doha, 9 September 2025.- On Tuesday, September 9, Israel targeted several Hamas leaders in Doha, causing casualties and disrupting the center of the Qatari capital, following a deadly attack in Jerusalem.
The Qatari capital was shaken by the Israeli operation, resulting in the closure of certain areas and the intervention of the security forces. Israel claims to have targeted Hamas' senior leadership in retaliation for a shooting in Jerusalem the previous day.
According to the Israeli army, the operation was conducted in coordination with the Shin Bet and named « Judgment day ». Several buildings housing members of Hamas' political bureau were affected, while these leaders were discussing a proposed United States ceasefire.
Hamas reports several deaths and injuries among its leadership, but notes that its chief negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya, survived. Qatar reports the death of a non-commissioned member of its security forces and several wounded.
Israel assumes responsibility for the operation, while the international community reacts. Qatar, Iran and Islamic Jihad denounce a violation of international law, while the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, France and the United Kingdom condemn the strikes.
This operation represents a significant escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, targeting leaders outside traditional combat zones and highlighting the fragility of any truce initiative in the region.
