Port-au-Prince, 10 October 2025.- The Minister of Trade and Industry, James Monazard, formally denied on Friday, October 10, the rumours that the US Congress had rejected the proposal to renew the HOPE/HELP law. Speaking on Panel Magik, the minister said that no decision has yet been taken in Washington, D.C., the text is still awaiting review.
According to James Monazard, the US Congress has not yet ruled on the current economic bills, including the HOPE/HELP law, which is essential to the Haitian textile sector. The current blockage, he explained, is the result of persistent disagreements between Republicans and Democrats over the federal budget, delaying the treatment of all economic laws.
Despite this uncertainty, Minister Monazard is optimistic about a successful outcome. However, he warned that several business leaders in the Haitian textile sector are threatening to withdraw from the market if the renewal of the HOPE/HELP law is not forthcoming.
This law, it should be noted, allows Haiti to export textile products to the United States duty-free, thereby supporting tens of thousands of jobs in the country's export processing zones.
