On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the Fund for Economic and Social Assistance (FAES) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of monetary transfers for parents of pupils as they approach school year-round. This measure aims, inter alia, to reduce the expenses associated with the return to school for the most vulnerable families and to prevent early school leaving.
A budget of 2.5 billion gourdes is foreseen for this operation, which will cover 140,000 parents whose children attend national, community, communal and presbyteral schools in disadvantaged areas. Each beneficiary will receive an allocation of 15,000 gourdes. The device, called « Cash Transfer to Education « , will be implemented under the Multisectoral Emergency Programme for the Calming and Reintegration of Vulnerable Groups.
Beneficiaries will be identified on the basis of data from the Education Management Information System (EIMS) of the MENFP, prior to transmission to the FAES for the execution of transfers. Government support also includes, according to MENFP, the distribution of school kits and textbooks, uniforms, tuition fees for the first two cycles of basic education and support for school canteens.
