Port-au-Prince, November 4, 2025.- In an interview granted to the show Panel Magik on Tuesday 4 November, David Ware, representative of the AGL harbour company (Atlantic Global Logistics), has expressed his frustration at the non-operationalization of the docks built by the company for five years. Despite an investment of more than $60 million, AGL remains waiting for the customs officers to officially start its operations at the Varreux terminal, a situation which it considers « Unbearable ».
For a decade, AGL, a logistics and port partner based in Varreux, has been trying to achieve a regional project supposed to boost Haitian maritime trade. However, despite infrastructure that has been ready for more than five years, the docks remain unused. « It has been ten years since we set up the company and five years since everything was ready. We have long been waiting for customs officers to receive the containers. It's a real problem. », lamented David Ware at Magik's microphone9.
The businessman stresses that this type of port development is strategic, not only for local development, but also for neighbouring Caribbean countries, often unable to accommodate large vessels. « The government must support companies like MSC and AGL that have decided to invest in Haiti. There was an invitation to invest, but at the last minute, everything becomes difficult. », he regretted.
According to Ware, AGL has mobilized external funding to make this huge investment. However, due to a lack of operating capacity, the company finds itself paying its debts without generating income. « We are currently paying back our loans, but we cannot receive containers. The situation is precarious »he said, denouncing a continuing financial loss.
Despite obtaining the legal authorizations necessary to operate in Varreux, the company says it remains blocked pending the provision of customs agents, indispensable for any port activity. « We're ready, but we can't keep throwing money into a black hole. »warned the leader, calling on the government to act quickly to unblock an infrastructure essential to the country's economic recovery.
